What are IP protection classes?
IP protection classes are used to describe the degree of protection of electronic devices against the ingress of foreign bodies (e.g. dust) and moisture. The IP classification consists of two digits.
The first digit can have values from 0 to 6 and describes how well the device is protected against the ingress of solids. The second digit can have values from 0 to 9 and indicates how well the device is protected against the ingress of moisture. The higher the number, the better the protection.
For example, a device with protection class IP68 has the best protection against the ingress of dust and is very well protected against ingress of water. A device with protection class IP44 has sufficient protection against the ingress of foreign bodies and is protected against splashing water.
