Chip-On-Board LEDs (COB)

COB LEDs are basically multiple LED chips (typically nine or more) mounted directly on a carrier board. Since the individual chips are not built into a housing as is usual with SMD LEDs, they can be mounted in such a way that they take up less space and thus the highest potential of the LED chips can be utilised. When the COB LEDs are energised, they act more like a light panel than like several individual lights, as would be the case if many SMD LEDs were used close together.
